THINK ABOUT YOUR ROAD POSITION

A left hand bend has inherent dangers, oncoming vehicles could be cutting the corner and be directly in your path as you position for view into the bend. Always look out for other dangers, like junctions and road surface debris. Do not ride near the white line all the time just because it is the correct position for a bend. Think about why you are there and look for clues that prevent you from being closer to oncoming traffic. You must be comfortable in your position to master cornering.

Learning Points Left Hand Bend

  • Adopt the correct speed on approach to the corner
  • Only ride to 80% of ability so that you have a reserve and can make changes
  • Do not ride too quickly into the bend as you could drift wide
  • Always be prepared to move towards position 2 (central position) away from oncoming traffic
  • Do not look down at the road surface in front of the bike when cornering
  • Link the hazards as you exit the bend
