On your Module 2 motorcycle test, the examiner will more than likely navigate you towards a dual carriageway. You may need to demonstrate an overtake if you catch a slower vehicle in front of you.
You should always aim to use the driving lane, which is the left hand lane and only use the overtaking lane (right hand lane) when overtaking single vehicles or slower moving traffic.
You should not stay in the overtaking lane for longer than is necessary and once the single vehicle overtake is complete, you should move back to the left hand lane.
When moving out to overtake single vehicles, ensure it is safe to do so with regular mirror checks to gather information behind. Indicate early and let it flash at least 5-6 times to make other vehicles aware of your intention to change lanes.
When it is safe to do so, you should carry out a lifesaver over the right shoulder and if it is safe, move out to the right hand lane. Once in the overtaking lane, cancel the signal and complete the overtake.
When you are clear of the slower moving vehicle, take a mirror check and lifesaver over the left shoulder to move back into the driving lane.
