You should use the safety position from the beginning of your training, it will result in you learning how to sit correctly from the outset, which sets a good foundation for your safety.
Mastering the safety position helps with situations such as hill starts and being stationary at night.
Adopting the safety position gives you full throttle control when pulling away. This is because you can apply the amount of throttle you require with a full grip of the right hand.
If for example the front brake is applied, it would be difficult to pull away safely because you would not have full control of the throttle.
It would mean you would have to use the web of the hand between the thumb and fingers to control the amount of throttle used.
